Where Is Ethenlessi?
Ethenlessi lies in the South Pacific Ocean, in the wide stretch of Polynesia dotted with hundreds of small islands and atolls. Like most atolls, it is the top of an ancient volcano that sank into the ocean, leaving behind a ring of coral reef. Today that ring forms a chain of low islets, never more than a few metres above sea level, enclosing a calm lagoon.
How to Get to Ethenlessi
There are no international flights to Ethenlessi. Travellers first fly to a larger island in the region and then choose between two options:
- By plane: a small propeller plane lands on the grass airstrip on the eastern islet a few times a week. Luggage limits are strict.
- By boat: the supply boat that brings food and fuel also takes passengers. It is slower and depends on the weather, but it enters the lagoon through Tama Pass, the best first view of the island.
Things to Do on Ethenlessi
Snorkel the Blue Garden reef
The Blue Garden is a shallow coral garden inside the lagoon, close to the shore. Calm water and good visibility make it the island's favourite spot for beginners.
Dive Tama Pass
Tama Pass is the channel where the ocean enters the lagoon. With the incoming tide, experienced divers drift through it alongside reef sharks, rays and large schools of fish.
Walk from islet to islet
At low tide, some islets are connected by sandbanks. A morning walk around the southern side of the atoll can pass several beaches without meeting anyone.
Visit Vaitero village
Vaitero is the only village on Ethenlessi, with a small church, a school, a shop and a harbour where fishing boats return in the afternoon.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Ethenlessi?

| Wet season | November to April | Warmer and more humid, with short heavy showers. Tropical storms are possible, so travel plans need flexibility. |
